About Metrion Biosciences
Metrion Biosciences is a contract research organisation (CRO) specialising in preclinical drug discovery. Its services cover ion channel screening, cardiac safety screening, neuroscience assays and integrated drug discovery, and it has launched a NaV1.9 high-throughput screening assay for pain research.
Its customers are pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies, which engage Metrion on a fee-for-service or collaboration basis.
Metrion was founded in 2015 through a management buyout of the research division of Xention Limited. Its headquarters are in Cambridge, UK, and its laboratories are at the Granta Park estate. The company raised a £2.7m equity round in 2021 led by Gresham House Ventures and a £3.7m round in 2023 led by Maven Capital Partners. Lee Patterson was appointed Chief Executive Officer in December 2024. Metrion was listed in The Sunday Times 100 Tech in 2026. It is currently hiring ion channel screening scientists.
