About Mialgae
MiAlgae grows microalgae by fermentation and produces a fish-free, DHA-rich omega-3 ingredient. Its feedstock is nutrient-rich by-products from the Scottish whisky industry, and it uses a patented fermentation process.
Customers are pet food and aquafeed manufacturers, who use the ingredient in wet and dry pet food, toppers, supplements and treats. Sales start with a 100g formulation sample and a certificate of analysis, followed by commercial-volume supply from its Scottish facility, with a long-term price guarantee. Butternut Box is named as a partner.
MiAlgae was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Edinburgh. Production runs at its facility in Grangemouth, which the company says is targeting 53,000 tonnes per year. It was an Earthshot Prize Finalist in 2024. Current vacancies are for production roles at the facility, including process technicians and production operators.
Product: Algae-based omega-3 (DHA) ingredient supplied as a powder for pet food and aquafeed.
