About Microbiotica
Microbiotica develops precision live biotherapeutic products (LBPs), which are defined bacterial consortia intended as medicines. Its clinic-led platform analyses the microbiome profiles of clinical trial patients to identify bacteria associated with clinical benefit, supported by a gut bacterial reference genome database, a linked culture collection and proprietary bioinformatics tools.
The company's two lead candidates are MB097, a co-therapy designed to enhance immune checkpoint inhibitors in melanoma, being tested in the UK/EU Phase 1b MELODY-1 study in combination with pembrolizumab, and MB310, a monotherapy for ulcerative colitis, being tested in the UK/EU Phase 1b COMPOSER study. Its pipeline targets immuno-oncology and inflammatory bowel disease.
Microbiotica was established as a spin-out from Dr Trevor Lawley's laboratory at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and is headquartered in Cambridge, UK, with purpose-designed facilities at Chesterford Research Park. The company has raised £62 million in equity to date, including a £50 million Series B in 2022, and announced a £36 million Series C in October 2026 to advance its pipeline into Phase 2 development.
