About Smardt

Smardt designs, builds and installs oil-free centrifugal chillers, including air-cooled, water-cooled and evaporatively cooled models in the AD/AE, Ultra, Core and E-Class series. Its magnetic-bearing compressors need no lubrication system. The Smardt-OPK group also offers special products such as heat exchangers, containerized plants and bespoke heat pumps.

Customers include hospitals, office buildings, data centers, government facilities, manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, hotels, schools and universities, greenhouses, and naval and marine operators. The company describes its business as oil-free chillers only, with sales, installation and support delivered through a global network.

Smardt was founded in 2005 in Montreal by Roger Richmond-Smith, with a team that came largely from Turbocor. It acquired Stuttgart-based OPK Klimatechnik AG in 2011 and has factories in Plattsburgh, New York and Guangzhou, China, with sales and service facilities in Singapore. TICA, a Chinese HVAC company, has held full ownership since 2022. The company lists open roles in manufacturing, engineering and quality, mainly in Dorval, Quebec and Phoenix, Arizona.

Product: Oil-free centrifugal chillers (air-cooled, water-cooled and evaporatively cooled), plus special heat exchangers, containerized plants and heat pumps.
