About Woamy
Woamy develops a patented cellulose-based biofoam that mimics the directional strength of wood, producing a solid, lightweight foam that is biodegradable and recyclable. The technology comes from the Foamwood research project and Woamy is a spinout from Aalto University.
Its products include Woamy Strong Boards and Soft Board inserts, and the company offers adaptable post-processing to tailor the foam to specific packaging needs. Customers include product brands; the Finnish ceramics brand Pidät uses Strong Boards for international shipping. Alongside the material, the team offers design and business strategy support for packaging projects.
Woamy was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in Espoo, Finland. It has scaled its technology from lab scale to a garage-scale machine, is constructing a larger production line and is starting its first packaging pilot productions. In 2026 the company was selected for and named a winner of Logitech's Future Positive Technology Challenge.
Product: Cellulose-based biofoam packaging materials, including Strong Boards and Soft Board inserts, with custom post-processing.
