About Vaxcyte
Vaxcyte develops vaccines against bacterial infections, with a lead franchise of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs): VAX-31, a 31-valent candidate, and VAX-24, a 24-valent candidate, studied for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease. Its approach uses a cell-free protein synthesis platform and advanced chemistry to produce complex vaccines. Early-stage programs target Group A Strep and Shigella.
The candidates are aimed at infants, young children and older adults, and at people with immune deficiencies or certain chronic conditions. VAX-31 is in a Phase 3 adult clinical program and a Phase 2 infant program, and VAX-24 is in a Phase 2 infant program. The company does not sell products on the market, and its stated focus is clinical development and manufacturing of these candidates.
Vaxcyte was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Carlos, California. Its co-founder and CEO is Grant Pickering. The company has announced an investment of up to $1 billion in expanding U.S. manufacturing, including new vaccine production in North Carolina. At the time of the profile it listed 40 open roles, mostly in analytical development, manufacturing, quality, commercial and IT functions, based in San Carlos and Visp, Switzerland, with some remote U.S. positions.
Product: VAX-31 (31-valent) and VAX-24 (24-valent) pneumococcal conjugate vaccine candidates, plus early-stage Group A Strep and Shigella programs.
