Thames Freeport

Thames Freeport is a freeport tax site along 38 km of the Thames east of London, with three Special Economic Zones within a larger regional footprint. It covers the ports of Tilbury and DP World London Gateway and Ford's Dagenham plant, and offers tax incentives and streamlined customs to manufacturing and logistics businesses.

Its customers are businesses and investors that set up or expand premises in the zone. The organisation brings together land, infrastructure, planning, skills and government-backed incentives to help projects move from proposal to operation. Listed benefits include 40% of rent equivalent saved over the first five years, 0% employer National Insurance contributions for three years on new jobs, 100% business rates relief for five years, and 1,243 acres of development land.

The Thames Freeport was designated as a freeport tax site by the UK government on 15 December 2021, and the company was founded in April 2022. Its registered seat is in Essex. Incentives are stated to be extended to September 2031. Featured tenants and projects include a commercial vehicle charging hub at the Port of Tilbury, a UPS warehouse at London Gateway, and an Amazon fulfilment centre in Tilbury.
