About Submarine Technology

Submarine Technology Limited, trading as STL Research, is a consultancy, design, development and project implementation group specialising in motion compensation, control and automation for the offshore and subsea industries. Its main product is the Neptune 20M personnel access system, a motion-compensated gondola that transfers personnel and equipment from a vessel to a fixed or floating offshore structure. Proteus is a deck-mounted robotic arm with machine vision for launching and recovering ROVs, AUVs and ASVs.

The company also offers Janus, a six degree of freedom motion platform that can be purchased and tailored to customer requirements. Its own 63 Series Janus is available to hire for third-party work at its Isle of Wight facility. Legacy projects include diving systems, hyperbaric lifeboats, HP/HT valves, wellhead control and monitoring systems and automatic ultrasonic NDT.

The company was founded in 1979 and is registered in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It initially operated from Aberdeen and is now based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
