About Sensibel

sensiBel, legally sensiBel AS, develops optical MEMS microphones. Its design uses a laser and photodetector to measure diaphragm movement, which the company says gives ultra-low self-noise and high dynamic range. The SBM100B and SBM140B digital microphones are rated at 84 dB SNR and 146 dB AOP, with 136 dB dynamic range and 24-bit output over I2S, PDM or TDM interfaces. The company also offers AURORA and POLARIS USB-C evaluation kits and a 32-microphone array development kit.

Customers are device makers who integrate the microphones into products such as microphone arrays, conferencing equipment, smartphones, tablets and laptops, wearables, true wireless earbuds, pro audio gear and industrial sound detection systems. The company sells microphones and evaluation kits.

sensiBel was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Its research roots lie in optical MEMS work at SINTEF in the early 2000s. It began shipping the SBM100 package in 2022 and reports that it is moving into high-volume production of the SBM100B. Full-time positions in Oslo are listed on its careers page.

Product: SBM100B and SBM140B optical MEMS microphones with I2S, PDM and TDM digital interfaces, plus AURORA and POLARIS USB-C evaluation kits.
