PratSam

Pratsam is a Finnish software company that builds production systems, online distribution platforms and playback applications for accessible books and newspapers. Its products support the DAISY standards and EPUB, and include the Pratsam Reader App, Reader Web, Reader Win, Pratsam Server and Pratsam Producer, which turns print newspapers into audio DAISY publications using speech synthesis.

Customers are organisations that serve visually impaired and other print-disabled people. The Finnish state-owned Accessibility Library Celia uses Pratsam Server, and the website states that almost a million DAISY books are distributed online through it every year and that over 50,000 individuals use Pratsam online services. Pratsam also offers consulting, development and maintenance services.

Pratsam was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Vaasa, Finland. It is a member of the international DAISY Consortium. The system originated in a 2002-2004 pilot with Norra Österbottens svenska synskadade rf (NÖSS), which is also a part owner. In 2012 Pratsam co-founded the non-profit Kolibre association, which maintains the open source code of the Pratsam system. The Reader App platform is provided by the Belgian company Sensotec.

Product: Production systems, online distribution platforms (Pratsam Server, Producer) and DAISY/EPUB playback apps (Reader App, Reader Web, Reader Win) for accessible media.
