About Photono

Photono develops a next-generation solution for glaucoma and ophthalmology, aimed at screening, measuring and monitoring intra-ocular pressure (IOP), which is used in glaucoma diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. The solution is still under development.

The company cites over 300 million people worldwide with high IOP, which can lead to glaucoma and blindness, and notes that the condition is often asymptomatic. The technology is developed in close cooperation with a research group led by Professor Edward Hæggström at the University of Helsinki Physics Department Electronics Research Laboratory.

Photono was founded in 2014 by Antti Kontiola, a physician and inventor who previously developed Tiolat, known for iCare brand tonometers. The company is headquartered in Helsinki.
