The company traces its origins to 1961, when Ernest James Cook founded EJ Cook & Sons; it was later renamed Poolcraft Engineering and then PCE Automation. The current legal entity dates from 1999. Its headquarters and factory are in Beccles, Suffolk, UK, and sites are listed in Dublin and Barton-upon-Humber. Production floor space is listed as 9500 m². Current openings include electrical assembly, controls commissioning, technical lead and mechanical assembly roles, and the company also takes on apprentices.
