About Nordic Electrofuel
Nordic Electrofuel is a privately held Norwegian company founded in 2015 by Rolf Bruknapp. It produces sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) from renewable electricity, hydrogen and CO2 using the Power-to-Liquid pathway, with a process based on reversed water gas shift and Fischer-Tropsch technologies.
Its E-fuel 1 project is a pilot plant at Herøya in Porsgrunn, Norway, planned to produce about 21,000 tonnes per year of synthetic hydrocarbons, with commissioning scheduled for 2026. The company intends its products to replace fossil-based fuels in aviation and other hard-to-abate sectors, and it aims to raise capital from financial investors as well as from airlines, aircraft manufacturers and airports.
The project received a EUR 40 million grant from the EU Innovation Fund and the company was selected for the EIC Scaling Club in October 2024. It has signed memoranda of understanding with Hydrom in Oman and with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia, and a term sheet with P2X Europe. Its registered headquarters is in Oslo.
Product: Synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) and related e-naphtha products produced via the Power-to-Liquid pathway.
