About Memrise

Memrise develops a language learning app built around short videos of native speakers, spaced-repetition review, interactive podcasts, pronunciation tools and AI conversation practice. Courses cover 149 languages, and the company states it has AI-marked exam preparation for IELTS, A-Level, GCSE, IB and CEFR-aligned exams.

Its customers are individual adult learners with a specific goal, such as passing an exam, working in another language, travelling or communicating with family. Learners can start for free, and a paid subscription plan unlocks additional features.

Memrise was founded in 2010 in London by Ed Cooke, Ben Whately and Greg Detre. The company reports more than 80 million learners across 189 countries. Its team works hybrid, with an office in East London.

Product: Mobile and web language learning app with native-speaker video courses, spaced repetition, podcasts, pronunciation tools and AI speaking and exam practice.
