About Macomics
Macomics develops extracellular protein degradation therapies that direct macrophages to degrade large protein complexes in tissue and circulation. Its Deg-Mac platform engages macrophages and a disease target, and the same platform can be pointed at new targets by swapping the target binder.
The company's first program is in IgA nephropathy, where it is advancing a Deg-Mac degrader that clears large Gd-IgA1 immune complexes. A second program has been identified. The platform is also described as applicable to autoimmune, inflammatory, metabolic and CNS diseases. Patients with IgA nephropathy are the intended end users of its lead program.
Macomics was founded in 2018 and spun out of the University of Edinburgh in 2019 by Professor Jeffrey Pollard and Dr Luca Cassetta. It is headquartered in Edinburgh and is backed by specialist life-science investors. Its CEO is Dr Steve Myatt.
Product: Deg-Mac, a macrophage-based extracellular protein degradation platform; lead program is a degrader for IgA nephropathy.
