About LocalBiorefinery
LocalBiorefinery develops water-based cascade biorefining that converts sawdust and other forest-industry sidestreams into food and feed ingredients, herbal products and an activated carbon raw material. Its process extracts hemicelluloses from mechanical saw-industry sidestreams using pressurised hot water, and the hemicellulose-depleted sawdust left over is used as a raw material for activated carbon.
The company works with sidestream providers and owners of residual biomass, collecting their side streams and converting them into biobased products. It also collaborates with industry partners, research institutions and government agencies on circular bioeconomy solutions.
LocalBiorefinery Oy was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Turku, Finland. Its team includes a board, an advisory board and a COO responsible for biomass logistics and partner relations.
