About IRB Barcelona
IRB Barcelona is a biomedical research centre that conducts investigator-driven research on cancer and other diseases linked to ageing. Its work spans biology, chemistry, and structural and computational biology. Research results reach patients through technology transfer, carried out via collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry and major hospitals.
The centre also runs a PhD programme and postdoctoral programme for young researchers, and it has spun off companies such as Gate2Brain and Ona Therapeutics. Recent news on its site includes a €2.5M ERC Advanced Grant and a €7 million investment in Gate2Brain.
IRB Barcelona was founded in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the University of Barcelona and is located in the Barcelona Science Park. It is a CERCA centre within the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and has received four consecutive Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence accreditations (2011, 2015, 2019, 2023). The centre has nearly 450 research, technical and support staff from 35 countries. Its open positions include postdoctoral fellows, laboratory technicians, a laboratory manager, a platform engineer and a pre-award grants officer.
