About Hydrovolt
Hydrovolt recycles end-of-life electric vehicle and industrial batteries. Its services cover collection, reuse assessment on request and recycling, with steps including diagnosis, discharging, manual dismantling, crushing and sorting. The output is secondary raw materials, including low-carbon black mass, for reuse in new batteries. The company reports a 99% total recycling rate and a material recovery rate above 85%.
Customers are Nordic car importers and industrial companies that need recycling solutions for their batteries. Collection uses reusable ADR-labelled packaging and a digital portal for call-off orders.
Hydrovolt was established in 2020 as a joint venture between Hydro and Northvolt; Hydro acquired the remaining shares in January 2025 and now owns 100%. Its plant is in Fredrikstad, Norway, and is designed to handle 12,000 tons of battery packs per year. The company has been approved as a battery treatment operator in Norway, Denmark and Iceland, and entered the Swedish market in February 2026.
