About Hystar
Hystar is a Norwegian cleantech company that develops and manufactures proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers for green hydrogen production. Its patented design combines fuel cell know-how with electrolyser technology, with an anode air feed and a cathode water feed. The product range includes the EOS 125 standard product, the containerised and scalable VEGA 1000 with a 5 MW unit capacity, and the ORION 4000 and 20000 large-scale modular solutions.
Customers are project developers, industrial operators and energy companies. Target industries include heavy industry, maritime transport, e-fuels, fertiliser and ammonia, chemicals, and energy storage and grid balancing. The company sells electrolyser systems and offers design packages and engineering support for integration. Hystar was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in Høvik, outside Oslo. Its technology is described as built on more than a decade of research at SINTEF, and the company cites over 40,000 hours of testing and operational experience. It currently has an annual production capacity of 100 MW and is building a 4.5 GW automated factory. Hystar holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and has announced a partnership with BHEL on local PEM electrolyser manufacturing in India.
