About Hiiroc

HiiROC has developed Thermal Plasma Electrolysis, a proprietary plasma-based process that produces hydrogen with zero CO2 emissions and solid carbon black as a by-product. The company states that the process is as cheap as steam methane reforming without carbon capture and uses a fraction of the energy and cost of water electrolysis.

The process is offered for point-of-use hydrogen production, from small modular units up to industrial scale. Target sectors include power generation, hydrogen blending and industrial decarbonisation.

Established in 2019, HiiROC has a development centre in Hull, commercial offices in the south of England and a research lab in Europe, with a team of over 100 engineers, physicists, industry specialists and commercial experts. In January 2026 it announced funding from Scottish Enterprise for a feasibility study on sustainable aviation fuel and a memorandum of understanding with Tokyo Gas.

Product: Thermal Plasma Electrolysis hydrogen production process and units, producing hydrogen and solid carbon black from zero-CO2 operation.
