About Eastern Green Link 2

Eastern Green Link 2 is developing a 505 km high-voltage direct current electricity link between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire and Drax in North Yorkshire. The project includes subsea and underground cables, converter stations and substation works to transfer electricity between Scotland and England.

The project is a joint venture between SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission. It is part of the UK’s electricity transmission infrastructure and is intended to carry power, including electricity from renewable sources, between regions.

EASTERN GREEN LINK 2 LIMITED was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Reading. Construction is underway, with the project due to become operational in 2029.
