cylib recovers the materials in end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt and manganese. Its products are lithium (cylium) and graphite (cygraph), recovered with a proprietary water-based process, and nickel, cobalt and manganese compounds made to partner specifications. The company was born at RWTH Aachen University and builds on that research.
Customers include partners that supply end-of-life batteries, production scrap and black mass for recycling, and battery material buyers that take the recycled raw materials. Recent partnerships include a pilot with Porsche on high-voltage battery recycling and a memorandum of understanding with Vianode on recycled graphite supply.
cylib was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in Aachen, Germany. It operates a pilot line in Aachen and is building a industrial plant in Dormagen with a planned capacity of 30,000 tons per year; it also acquired a facility in Wernberg-Köblitz, Bavaria. The company reports more than 100 experts and over €90M in equity and grants, and is currently hiring for production, R&D, procurement, supply chain and IT roles.
