About Alginor
Alginor ASA is a Norwegian marine biotech company that harvests the brown macroalga Laminaria hyperborea and processes it through biorefining into kelp-based ingredients. The product portfolio is planned for medical, personal care, and health and nutrition applications, and all products are to be formaldehyde-free. The company runs an integrated value chain from harvest through transport to finished product, with upstream harvesting carried out by its subsidiary Hypomar AS.
Its primary revenue model is direct business-to-business sales to end-user production companies in several market segments. Pharmaceutical ingredients are to be produced under cGMP principles, and nutraceutical ingredients to food-grade quality.
Alginor was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Avaldsnes, Norway, with production facilities on Husøy near Avaldsnes and offices in Haugesund and Oslo. Its development has been supported mainly by public funding, including EU Horizon 2020 and grants from the Research Council of Norway and Innovation Norway. In September 2026 the company announced new funding and a new CEO.
Product: Kelp-based life science ingredients from Laminaria hyperborea for medical, personal care, and health and nutrition uses.
