About Wave

Wave operates a mobile money service in Africa. Users can deposit and withdraw money, pay bills and buy airtime, and send money to other users for a 1% fee. The company states its mission is to make Africa the first cashless continent.

Its customers are individuals who use the service to send money to family, pay bills and save their daily wages. Deposits, withdrawals and bill payments are free, and sending money costs 1%.

Wave was founded by Drew Durbin, who previously built Sendwave, a digital remittance service to Africa. Its leadership page lists Ruth Lee as Chief Technology Officer and regional and country leads in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire.
