About Volter
Volter Oy, based in Tupos, Finland, makes Walter wood-chip gasification power plants that produce electricity and heat, with a stated electrical output of 50 kW. It also distributes Heizomat automated biomass heating systems, with heating outputs from 30 to 990 kW. The company describes its technology as replacing one litre of oil with two kilograms of dry wood chips.
The company sells its power plants and heating systems to customers including farms, construction firms and property owners. It has delivered more than 100 power plants and reports resellers in 12 countries. Since 2020 it has also offered productisation and commercialisation services to selected customers.
Volter was founded in 1997. In 2025 the owner family of Heizomat GmbH, a German biomass boiler and heating system manufacturer, became its majority shareholder. Heizomat system imports into Finland began in 2026. In 2024 the company agreed to supply five power plants to Japan, and in 2025 it reported EU co-funding for a development project on a grid-independent energy solution.
