About Universal Quantum
Universal Quantum develops utility-scale trapped-ion quantum computers. Its integrated Quantum Processing Unit (iQPU) combines trapped-ion qubit chips with classical control units, UQConnect links quantum modules through an electric field link, and UQLogic is a microwave technology used to control qubits. The company states that its system runs at 70K.
Customers are governments, industry and academia; the website names the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) as a client for its next-generation devices. The company also works with partners on quantum algorithms, system simulators and use cases for error-corrected quantum computers.
Universal Quantum was founded by Sebastian Weidt and Winfried Hensinger at the University of Sussex and incorporated in 2018, the year after they published a blueprint for a large-scale trapped-ion quantum computer. The website describes a UK centre, sites in Germany and the USA, and a Singapore R&D competency centre, and reports a Series A of over $100m. Its open roles are mainly technical (physics, electronics, engineering) across Haywards Heath, Hamburg, Singapore and Tokyo.
Product: Trapped-ion quantum computers based on the iQPU, with UQConnect module linking and UQLogic microwave qubit control.
