About SPAK-EKO
SPAK-EKO, a.s. runs a voluntary system for collecting cigarette butts and filters from tobacco products to reduce environmental pollution from them. It also develops the Cigaretovník initiative, which educates the public on proper disposal of cigarette butts, and supports innovative ways of reusing them. The company aims to build an extended producer responsibility system similar to those already used for electronic waste.
Its customers are towns and municipalities in Slovakia; according to the company's website, more than 50 towns and municipalities with over one million inhabitants take part in the system. The system is financed by tobacco product manufacturers. The company was created as a joint initiative of British American Tobacco (Czech Republic), Imperial Brands Slovakia, JTI Slovak Republic and Philip Morris Slovakia, which committed to the initiative through a memorandum.
SPAK-EKO, a.s. was founded on 21 September 2023 and is headquartered in Bratislava.
Product: Voluntary cigarette butt collection system for municipalities and the Cigaretovník public awareness initiative.
