About Simsonar

Simsonar builds underwater optical fish counters that detect, identify by species, and measure fish passing through fishways and small brooks. The product combines optics, electronics, software, neural networks and cloud services; offerings include the FishCounter PRO with a video tunnel, the FishCounter LITE camera system, camera rental, installation, and data analysis and reporting.

Customers include national government agencies, research institutions, conservation organisations, mining and hydropower operators, and non-profit river and sport-fishing groups. The company sells systems, rental, installation and data services, and delivers reports via email or web-based platforms.

Simsonar was founded in 2009 in Oulu, Finland, where it is headquartered. It has co-developed an automated fish sorting system with FISHBIO for invasive pink salmon, with testing begun in Finnmark, Norway.
