About Polar
Polar is an open-source billing platform that ingests usage events, meters them into live meters, runs subscriptions and prepaid credits, and acts as merchant of record. Its building blocks include event ingestion, subscriptions, credits, a hosted checkout and payouts to the customer's bank account.
Customers are software and AI companies that sell products to their own users. Polar earns through a free Starter plan at 5% + 50¢ per transaction, and through optional paid plans (Pro at $20/month, Growth at $100/month, Scale at $400/month) with lower variable rates. Organizations created before May 27, 2026 remain on an Early Member rate.
The website describes a small, remote senior team and lists venture firms AccelVenture, Abstract and Mischief among its backers. Open roles are for Product Engineering and Platform Engineering, listed for the U.S. and Europe. The registry country is the United States, and the company links to its GitHub organization for open-source work.
Product: Usage-based billing API with event metering, subscriptions, credits, hosted checkout, and merchant-of-record payments and sales tax handling.
