PlaqueTec develops a proprietary device that takes simultaneous in-vivo blood samples from either side of a coronary plaque, collecting biomolecules at the disease site. It pairs these samples with a data analysis platform that combines plaque biochemistry with imaging, genetic, clinical and demographic data to endotype coronary artery disease (CAD) and identify endotype-specific biomarkers.

The company's stated aim is to support drug development by identifying new targets within specific patient groups, which it says could reduce clinical trial sizes and costs. It works with a network of scientists, physicians, device and software engineers, assay providers and drug discovery platforms. The company's clinical work includes the Clinical Study 1 (CS1) trial and the BIOPATTERN clinical trial.

PlaqueTec was founded in 2007 and is headquartered at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Its board is chaired by Martin Stapleton, and the leadership team includes Dr Simon Williams (General Manager) and Dr Diane Proudfoot (Chief Scientific Officer).
