About Photoncycle
Photoncycle develops a residential energy system that stores solar energy across seasons. The system combines solar modules, a reversible fuel cell that produces green hydrogen from water in summer and generates electricity from stored hydrogen in winter, and a patented solid-state hydrogen storage technology. Energy is held in an underground storage unit with a capacity of up to 10,000 kWh, supplemented by an above-ground energy centre with a lithium-ion battery.
The product is aimed at homeowners who want year-round heat and electricity from their own solar generation. Photoncycle also markets surplus energy on the owner's behalf, and customers receive a share of the trading proceeds, with monthly energy costs presented as fixed. The technology is being piloted with Norway's largest home builder, and series production is planned to start in 2027.
Photoncycle was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in Oslo. The company was incubated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Its board includes investor partners from Lifeline Ventures, Voima Ventures and NordicNinja VC.
