About Nec Initiative
NEC Initiative publishes and applies the Net Environmental Contribution (NEC) metric, a relative holistic measure of the impact of economic activities on nature across climate, pollution and resources. The metric places companies on a scale from -100% to +100%.
It offers a database of over 45,000 issuers, an "expert user" licence that lets investors calculate NEC scores internally with training and methodological support, and on-demand NEC score calculations for companies, products and projects. Its clients are investors, including asset owners, asset managers, private equity funds, index providers and banks, as well as companies of any size.
The company was created in 2021 as a mission-led company after the metric was developed from 2015 to 2018 by Sycomore Asset Management. The French registry lists it as an SAS in Paris with 1-9 employees.
