Matthes & Seitz Berlin is a German publishing house that issues non-fiction and literature. Its programme covers philosophy, nature, political theory, anthropology and cultural studies, along with contemporary authors from Germany, France, Russia and China and new translations of classics.

The publisher operates three imprints: Friedenauer Presse, which publishes classics of Russian and French literature in finely produced editions; August Verlag, a forum for theory at the intersection of philosophy, politics and art; and Rohstoff, a non-profit project for new German-language prose, essays and poetry. Revenue comes from book sales and from licensing foreign rights to its catalogue, which the foreign-rights section lists at 379 titles.

The company was founded in Berlin in 2004, continuing a tradition that began in 1977 in Munich with Axel Matthes and Claus Seitz. Friedenauer Presse was founded in 1963 in Berlin-Friedenau and became an imprint of the publisher in 2020; August Verlag was founded in 2008 and became an imprint in 2021. It offers unpaid three-month mandatory internships in editorial work and in press and public relations.
