About Material. Evolution
Material Evolution (Mevo) develops ultra-low carbon cement and concrete products that use industrial byproducts and waste materials as feedstock. Its proprietary alkali fusion process is described as operating at ambient temperatures. Its flagship product, MevoCem, is a 1:1 replacement for ordinary Portland cement with up to 85% lower emissions. MevoXL is a super accelerating concrete admixture that enables producers to replace up to 95% of ordinary Portland cement with low-carbon supplementary cementitious materials.
Customers include concrete block manufacturers, precast and ready-mix concrete producers, property developers and government agencies. Products are sold to concrete producers and construction companies, and trials are run first on the customer's own materials at Mevo's R&D Hub.
Mevo was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Belfast. It operates an R&D Hub in Middlesbrough, England, and its A1 production facility in Wrexham, Wales, was commissioned in October 2024 with an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes. The company closed a Series A funding round led by KOMPAS VC and Norrsken VC. Co-founders Dr Liz Gilligan and Sam Clark lead the company as CEO and COO.
