About Kraftblock
Kraftblock builds thermal energy storage systems, which it describes as a thermal battery, for industrial process heat. The system supplies steam, hot air, thermal oil or hot water at temperatures between 50 °C and 1,300 °C and can store electricity from low-cost or renewable sources as heat. Its product line includes a Net-Zero Heat System and a Mobile Heat System that transports heat on trucks. The storage material is upcycled and uses no rare earths.
Customers are industrial operators in steel and metal, pulp and paper, energy and utilities, glass and ceramics, food, beverages and pharma, chemicals, and oil and gas, as well as rubber and tyre and textile producers. Projects are custom solutions delivered in stages: a concept draft with size and operation mode, a feasibility study with plant engineering, and project execution covering procurement, manufacturing, installation and start-up. A reference project replaces a 25 MW gas boiler at a food producer in the Netherlands, and the company cites work with Eneco and Tata Steel.
Kraftblock was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in Saarbrücken, Germany. Investors include Freigeist Capital, Shell Ventures and TechEnergy Ventures, and six investors together committed €20 million in 2023, according to the company's history page.
Product: Thermal energy storage systems (thermal battery) supplying process heat as steam, hot air, thermal oil or hot water, plus Net-Zero and Mobile Heat Systems.
