About kba.de
Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) is the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. It tests vehicles, trailers and vehicle parts for conformity with approved types, including exhaust emissions in real road traffic, engine control software, and systems such as braking, ABS and ESP. Testing is done at its laboratory in Harrislee and its test centre in Leck.
KBA provides online services to vehicle owners, dealers and manufacturers, such as a recall database, an electronic Certificate of Conformity (eCoC) lookup, a defect reporter, register information on vehicles and driving licences, and an application for special registration exemptions. It also runs an online questionnaire for road freight transport statistics for registered companies.
KBA publishes press releases and statistics, including monthly new vehicle registrations and road traffic figures. In 2026 it marked 75 years of the authority and launched the chatbot "Kabea". It is a member of the Alliance for Cyber Security (Allianz für Cyber Sicherheit). The careers page listed no open vacancies at the time of the snapshot.
