About hypothes.is

Hypothesis builds a social annotation platform that lets students and instructors highlight, comment on and reply to course readings directly over web pages, PDFs, EPUB files and YouTube videos. It integrates into learning management systems via LTI, including Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L Brightspace and Sakai. A free open web annotator is also offered.

Its customers are colleges and universities. Institutions buy per-student annual packages in tiers (Free, Bronze, Silver and Gold) with seat limits, and higher tiers add advanced analytics, auto-grading, training and support.

The company was founded in 2011 as an open-source project. The website reports use by more than 300 institutions and over 3 million annotators. The team is fully remote and spans three continents, and the careers page lists open positions.
