The Österreichische Hagelversicherung VVaG is a specialist agricultural insurer. Damage assessment uses satellite data from the European Space Agency together with a network of independent loss adjusters who are practising farmers.

Its customers are farmers, fruit growers, winegrowers, gardeners and livestock owners in Austria and in its foreign markets. The company is a mutual insurance association (Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit), so it is not profit-maximising and its members are the policyholders.

The company was founded in 1946 in Austria and expanded abroad from 2006, starting with the Czech Republic. It has its own branches in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria.
