About Gravithy
GravitHy produces low-carbon iron, a hot briquetted iron (HBI) and direct reduced iron (DRI) product, made from low-carbon hydrogen instead of coal. The company states that the iron cuts CO2 emissions by about 90% compared with the coal-based process, and that it is compatible with existing steelworks and easily exportable.
Its customers are steelmakers, who use the iron in electric arc furnaces to produce greener steel. The company sells the iron to these industrial buyers.
GravitHy was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in Marseille, with an office in Paris. Its first plant is planned in Fos-sur-Mer, France, with a stated capacity of 2 Mt per year of HBI, an investment of over €3 billion and 500 direct jobs. The project is recognised as a Major National Industrial Project by the French government and was selected for an EU Innovation Fund subsidy. The company is hiring for engineering, operations and logistics roles.
Product: Hot briquetted iron (HBI) and direct reduced iron (DRI) produced from low-carbon hydrogen, sold to steelmakers for electric arc furnace steel production.
