About GitHits

GitHits builds a version-aware index of open-source code, documentation, package releases, dependency graphs and security advisories. Agents and developers reach it through MCP, a CLI and an API, with tools to resolve packages, search and grep code, read files at a given version, compare code changes, check package health and known vulnerabilities, and generate code examples or research answers with cited sources.

The product is aimed at software factories and coding agents. Setup is a single command, npx githits init, which opens a browser authorisation and configures the supported AI coding tools selected by the user.

GitHits Oy was founded in 2025 and is headquartered in Tampere, Finland.
