About Fire Testing Technology

Fire Testing Technology (FTT) manufactures, supplies and maintains reaction-to-fire test instruments, including cone calorimeters, large scale calorimeters, NBS smoke chambers and oxygen index instruments. Its current cone calorimeter is the iCone2+. The company's engineers write the instrument software, and customers can request customisation.

Customers are fire testing laboratories and research users of these instruments. FTT sells through a worldwide distribution network and offers installation, training, laboratory design support and global service programmes at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Revenue comes from instrument sales and these service and support offerings.

FTT was founded in 1989 by instrument engineer Stephen Upton and fire scientist Stephen Grayson. In 2005 it was acquired by Judges Scientific plc, which heads a group of scientific instrument companies. The company is based in London, has a UK factory, and is opening a branch in the USA. It has held ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications since 2011.
