About filmfest-muenchen.de
Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH runs FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, the Munich International Film Festival, held every summer at the end of June. The festival screens some 150 films as world, international, European or German premieres. Its competitions include New German Cinema, New German Television Productions, CineVision, CineMasters, CineRebels and CineCoPro, and it runs programmes for young audiences, including the CineYou laboratory and the CineKindl competition.
The festival serves Munich audiences, the German film and media industry, and international guests. The site states that more than 80,000 visitors attend. Its CineCoPro Conference covers German co-productions, funding strategies and international networking, and is part of the Beergarden Convention, the festival's industry get-together.
The festival began in 1983 as FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, after an idea from filmmakers in the early 1980s. Christoph Gröner has been festival director since October 2023, sharing creative oversight with Julia Weigl. The company is based in Munich, and the festival hires project staff each year through an online application portal.
