About Failbetter Games

Failbetter Games is an independent games studio that makes narrative games, mostly set in the Fallen London universe. Its titles include Fallen London, a free-to-play browser RPG; Sunless Sea and its expansion Zubmariner; Sunless Skies; and the visual novel Mask of the Rose. The studio also made Dragon Age: The Last Court for BioWare. Mandrake, a rural life sim in a new fantasy setting, is its forthcoming stand-alone game.

Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies are available on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The studio sells premium games to players and also runs the free-to-play browser game Fallen London.

The studio was founded in 2010, though its website dates its origins to 2009. It is headquartered in London and is fully remote; it had an office in London before the pandemic. The company has been named among the best small games companies to work for by GamesIndustry.biz five times and has won its Diversity Award. It states that it makes its games without crunch or generative AI.
