Endev

Endev Oy is a Finnish cleantech company that develops thermal treatment solutions for sewage sludge and industrial sludges. Its patented dual fluidized bed technology combines a circulating mass dryer and a circulating mass reactor to recover energy and chemical assets from sludge and to destroy hazardous pollutants such as pharmaceutical residues, toxins and microplastics. The remaining ash is hygienic and rich in nutrients, so it can be used for fertilizer.

The solutions are aimed at municipal wastewater treatment plants and industrial sludge producers that need to dispose of or utilise sludge locally and cost-efficiently. The technology also reduces the amount of material that must be transported away from the treatment plant.

Endev was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Helsinki. Its first full-scale facility, a sludge combustion plant built next to the Rovaniemi wastewater treatment plant for Napapiirin Energia ja Vesi (NEVE), has been in operation since 2019 and produces district heat. The technology was tested at a test facility in Kotka, and a modernised R&D plant is located in Pyhtää.
