About Eld Energy

Eld Energy designs electrochemical power systems based on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). The systems convert fuel directly to electricity without combustion and produce a concentrated CO2 stream for capture. The company states efficiency of up to 70%.

Its target customers are offshore oil and gas installations and large oceangoing ships, where electrification is costly or difficult with existing technology. Together with MODEC, the company is developing an SOFC program for floating production units (FPSOs), and the two have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a 1.2 MW power system with integrated carbon capture. DNV has granted Approval in Principle for the offshore SOFC power generation system developed with MODEC.

Eld Energy AS is headquartered in Bergen, Norway, and was founded in December 2024. The company states that its team draws on marine and oil and gas industry experience and on 30 years of fuel cell research and development, and that it develops marine and offshore products in close cooperation with class societies.

Product: Solid oxide fuel cell power systems with integrated CO2 capture for offshore platforms, FPSOs and deep-sea vessels.
