metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH is a non-federal rail transport company (EVU) that runs regional passenger trains under the metronom brand on the RE3/RB31 and RE4/RB41 lines, covering 294 route kilometres and 34 stations. It also operates the RE30 and RE50 lines under the enno brand in eastern Lower Saxony.
Its customers are rail passengers, and its services are provided under long-term transport contracts with public transport authorities: the Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen (LNVG), Region Hannover, the city-states of Hamburg and Bremen, and the Regionalverband Großraum Braunschweig. The company reports more than 120,000 passengers per day and around 600 employees.
The company was founded in 2002 as MetroRail GmbH and renamed metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH in 2003. Its registered seat is in Uelzen, Lower Saxony. Its shareholders are NiedersachsenBahn GmbH & Co. KG (73.6%) and BeNEX (26.4%). It is currently recruiting train drivers and passenger service staff for the RE5 Hamburg–Cuxhaven service, which it is due to start in December 2027.
