About Communicourt

Communicourt provides court-appointed intermediary services. Its communication specialists work with court users who have communication differences or difficulties, carry out assessments, and recommend adjustments that help them understand and take part in criminal, family, employment and immigration proceedings.

Customers are legal representatives and courts, which refer cases through an online portal. Most family court and criminal trial work is funded by HMCTS, and criminal assessments are typically funded through Legal Aid, so legal representatives do not pay charges. The company is a Managed and Approved Service Provider for HMCTS, regulated by the Ministry of Justice. It also offers free CPD-certified sessions for legal professionals, a free resources library, and the Accessing Justice podcast.

Founded in 2011 by Naomi Mason, a speech and language therapist and Registered Intermediary. The company is registered in Birmingham and describes itself as the largest provider of court-appointed intermediary services in England and Wales. It is recruiting graduates in speech and language therapy, psychology, nursing, law, criminology or social work for an Intermediary Development Programme, a 6-9 month training programme leading to an NCFE-accredited qualification.
