About Calogena
Calogena is developing a small modular reactor (SMR) using light-water technology, rated at 30 MW thermal and designed to supply district heating without combustion or carbon emissions. The design operates at low pressure (6 bar) and low temperature (100 °C), and its compact core allows systems and components to be assembled in a factory and transported to the site.
The company targets local authorities and urban heating networks, and states it expects to deploy its solutions from 2030 in French and European cities. It is a subsidiary of the industrial group GORGÉ. Calogena has announced a partnership with Veolia to study SMRs for district heating networks, with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe, and is preparing a nuclear heating plant project at the CEA Cadarache site.
Calogena is headquartered in Paris and was founded in 2021. It also has a technical site in Aix-en-Provence. The project is supported by France 2030 and, through the CityHeat project, by the European Commission. In March 2026 it announced a funding package of nearly €100 million to accelerate industrialisation. Current job openings include a control-command architect.
Product: A 30 MW thermal small modular reactor (SMR) designed for district heating networks.
