The Twentieth Century Society is a registered UK charity that campaigns to save buildings and design from 1914 onwards. It has a statutory role in the planning system and carries out casework on listed building consent applications. It also runs guided tours, conferences and lectures, publishes books, and produces the magazine C20 three times a year.
Free initial advice is offered to building owners, architects and other consultants planning work that may need listed building consent for post-1914 buildings. An Extended Advisory Service is available on a cost-recovery basis. Membership, donations, legacies, events and publications provide income, which funds campaigns, casework and running costs.
The society was founded in 1979 to complement the Victorian Society, which was founded in 1959. It has four full-time and two part-time staff at its London offices in Farringdon, supported by volunteers, trustees and freelance contributors. It is recruiting a Membership Manager and a Fundraising Manager on fixed-term part-time contracts, and is also seeking freelance consultants for a National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported organisational project.
