About BW Ess
BW ESS is a global energy storage developer, owner and operator of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). It covers the asset lifecycle from project origination and development to construction, operations and optimisation.
The company builds and owns storage projects that provide flexibility to electricity systems and help integrate renewable generation. Its Hams Hall project in the West Midlands entered commercial operations with 350 MW / 1,243 MWh, and its debt financing came from OCBC, Rabobank and Societe Generale.
BW ESS is part of BW Group. Its website states it was established in 2021, and its UK company, BW ESS Limited, is registered in London. The company reports 1.8 GWh in operation, about 10 GWh under or pre-construction, and a development pipeline of several gigawatts across six countries.
In October 2026 it announced entry into France, its seventh market, through the acquisition of two projects with a combined 200 MW / 800 MWh. Open roles listed include positions in the UK, Germany and Australia.
